DFS-Perf: A Scalable and Unified Benchmarking Framework for Distributed File Systems

A distributed file system (DFS) is a key component of virtually any cluster computing system. The performance of such system depends heavily on the underlying DFS design and deployment. As a result, it is critical to characterize the performance and design trade-offs of DFSes with respect to cluster configurations and real-world workloads. To this end, we present DFS-Perf, a scalable, extensibl...

A Hierarchical Production Planning and Finite Scheduling Framework for Part Families in Flexible Job-shop (with a case study)

Tendency to optimization in last decades has resulted in creating multi-product manufacturing systems. Production planning in such systems is difficult, because optimal production volume that is calculated must be consistent with limitation of production system. Hence, integration has been proposed to decide about these problems concurrently. Main problem in integration is how we can relate pro...

Benchmarking File System Benchmarking: It *IS* Rocket Science

The quality of file system benchmarking has not improved in over a decade of intense research spanning hundreds of publications. Researchers repeatedly use a wide range of poorly designed benchmarks, and in most cases, develop their own ad-hoc benchmarks. Our community lacks a definition of what we want to benchmark in a file system. We propose several dimensions of file system benchmarking and...

Cutting Corners: Workbench Automation for Server Benchmarking

A common approach to benchmarking a server is to measure its behavior under load from a workload generator. Often a set of such experiments is required— perhaps with different server configurations or workload parameters—to obtain a statistically sound result for a given benchmarking objective. This paper explores a framework and policies to conduct such benchmarking activities automatically an...
